Internet Association Takes Stand for Net Neutrality

Comcast, Charter, and other Internet Service Providers are happy. In December, the net neutrality rules passed a few years ago were repealed by former Verizon lawyer Ajit Pai, famous for being telecom's man in Washington. ISP lobbying works.

Even though millions of US consumers made comments against Ajit Pai's plan, the Internet Service Providers like AT&T and CenturyLink have a lot of sway with Pai and they got their way.

Google, Facebook, Amazon and Etsy are all members of a group called the Internet Association. It is a group made up of Internet content providers. The association is joining a lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission repeal of net neutrality rules. And why wouldn't they? Net neutrality rules are heavily stacked in Internet content providers favor. They did a lot of lobbying under Obama just like the Cable Internet Service Providers like Comcast, Cox and Charter is doing with the Trump administration. The passage of net neutrality back in 2015 shows that Google and Facebook lobbying works too.

DSL Internet Service Providers like CenturyLink and AT&T also have a strong lobby prescence with the Republicans. This is why the Internet content company friendly net neutrality rules got passed under Obama and were repealed under Trump.

Maybe someday we will get a fair Internet policy that actually protects consumers as opposed to Internet content companies or Internet Service Providers.
